Police are investigating two incidents where two different women have been hit on the arm by an unknown man in the area of Victoria Viaduct, Carlisle.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who could identify the man in either incident to come forward.

The first happened on September 21 at about 11am.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said: "The man involved was walking in the opposite direction to the woman, with the man walking in the direction of James Street.

"As he walked past the victim he hit her on the arm. As she turned round he was laughing."

The next incident happened on September 23 at about 12.35pm.

The spokesperson added: "The man involved was walking in the opposite direction to the woman and hit her on the arm. He was laughing when she turned around.

"In both cases the assaults caused pain.

"Both times the man was described as being in his fifties, with missing front teeth. The man was about 6ft tall."
