THIS week we’re going back more than 50 years to the mid-1960s.
1965 was a time of great change in this country as the Secretary of State for Education instructed local authorities to convert their schools to comprehensives.
A 70mph speed limit was imposed on UK roads and BP struck natural gas in the North Sea oil field.
Meanwhile, Mary Quant introduced the miniskirt in her shop on the King's Road in London and the first Asda supermarket was opened in Yorkshire.
The year’s Hit Parade also showed mixed musical tastes with number ones including The Rolling Stones’ Get Off My Cloud; the Seekers’ The Carnival is Over; Tears by Ken Dodd and Crying in the Chapel, by Elvis Presley.
