The city of Carlisle has changed over the years, like many others.
And today we’re looking back at photos taken back in 1965 from the top of the newly built civic centre.
The photos focus on the area around what is now Hardwicke Circus. The picture on the left shows what was the Sands car park.
The Sands leisure centre was built on the site and opened in 1985.
The photo on the right shows Corporation Road and Clifford Street prior to the building of the Castle Way dual-carriageway with Bitts Park in the background.
The picture on the top right focusses on the area between Duke’s Road and Newmarket Road where the County Garage had its premises and is now occupied by DFS furniture store.
