With the cold weather starting to set in, the Whitehaven News asked readers online for what they think is the best thing to do in Copeland on a rainy day.

October has already started to get very wet and very windy in Cumbria, where some areas were forced to have a flood warning put in place last week.

In no particular order, the ten most popular things to do on a rainy day are:

1) Carol Watson recommended the escape rooms at Lakes Escapes. West Cumbria’s first live escape room, the company urge you and your friends to try and break out of their themed rooms, complete with challenges and puzzles.

2) Leila Cox thinks a £17.50 family ticket at the Beacon Museum is worth every penny. Based on West Strand, the museum hosts a variety of interactive galleries and exhibitions that will interest guests of all ages.

3) Claire Benson thinks that swimming at The Mansion Guesthouse is a great option for something to do during the bad weather. It costs £20 an hour to hire the 10m heated pool at the Woodhouse Road bed and breakfast and is free to use should you choose to spend the night there.

4) The Funhouse Adventure Soft Play at the Red Lonning Industrial Estate cater for children aged 0 – 12 with a separate play area specifically for babies and toddlers. There is a café and seating area for parents to relax whilst their little ones blow off some steam.

5) The Gaiety Cinema on Tangier Street screens the latest releases and tickets are only £5 each. The building has been up since 1922 and screens can also be hired for private hire, special events, group bookings and parties.

6) The Daniel Hay Library on Lowther Street has recently re-opened for browsing, borrowing and access to PCs. Activities, in-group sessions and children’s events will gradually be re-introduced, however some events can be live streamed from home.

7) Whitehaven Sports Centre has a variety of activities for all ages and host events during the school holidays.

8) Billy Bears Fun Centre at Haig Enterprise Park has a bouncy castle, climbing frame, slides, cars, bikes to keep the kids entertained.

9) Some Copeland residents feel that people should brave the weather and walk around the picturesque scenery the county has to offer. Nadia Kennett says: “Find a good waterfall walk, always great on a rainy day!”

10) Many people decide to stay at home with a film on Netflix when the bad weather arrives!
