CONFUSION hampered the rescue of two walkers who were reportedly lost on Scafell Pike.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue was called out by police to an incident on at 5.15pm on October 2.
They were unable to make contact with them for some time, but there was a team already on the mountain.
A spokesperson from Wasdale Mountain Rescue said: "Team members who were on the hill on the Piers Gill incident were asked to keep a look out for them.
"Some time later, a call was picked up by a police force outside Cumbria and the Eastings and Northings from the 999 call put the walkers on Mickledore.
"Two team members were diverted from the Piers Gill incident when it became apparent that the lost group from that incident were not in fact in the area, and the two walkers were found unhurt at Mickledore."
The crew warmed the pair up and walked them down the mountain where they descended into Eskdale.
Here they were stopped by high water levels at a river junction and had to walk back.
Four team members were involved in the incident and it lasted nine hours.
The pair involved were brought to safety by 3.10am.
