WIGTON’S Squash Club is hosting a series of coaching sessions giving ladies the opportunity to learn to play racketball.

Racketball, known officially as Squash 57, is squash’s sister sport and is played on a squash court with almost identical rules. The difference is that the racket head is slightly larger and the ball is bigger and bouncier.

The sessions, which begin on Thursday October 7 and run for four weeks, follows on from a successful taster evening held at the club, based at Wigton Rugby Club on Lowmoor Road, last week as part of Women’s Squash Week.

No prior experience is needed to take part and the course of sessions are very much aimed at beginners and newer players. The sessions will be run by two of the club’s female coaches and will be a fun introduction to how to play the game.

Club chairman Jonny Irving said: “Racketball is a really fun sport to play and a great workout. It’s ideal for beginners and newer players and we’d love to see people come down and have a go. The sessions will be relaxed and give people the skills to enjoy the game of racketball.”

The sessions cost £16 for four weeks and run from 7pm to 8pm. With limited spaces available booking is required. For more information message the Wigton Squash Club Facebook page or call the club on 016973 45505.

People can also play squash or racketball at the club on a non-member basis. To book use above contact number.
