Local residents and businesses are being given the opportunity to have their say on new plans for Carlisle Railway Station.

Cumbria County Council is working with Carlisle City Council and railway companies to strengthen Carlisle's position in the national rail network with £20 million in funding.

Councillor Stewart Young, Leader of Cumbria County Council and Borderlands Partnership co-chair, said: "Our plans to improve Carlisle Railway Station have progressed really well, with feedback being taken on board from the previous two public consultations to get to where we are now.

"We’re now looking for people’s views on the updated plans to make sure we have a scheme that meets the needs of the station's users, as well as enhancing the attractiveness of the station as the gateway to Carlisle city centre and the wider Borderlands area."

Changes will be made to the Court Square and George Square areas and the station interior will have improved facilities for customers.

The first phase of work will begin in Summer 2022 and the public are asked to give feedback on initial plans.
