A Carlisle teenager has been banned from every betting shop in Carlisle.

Magistrates imposed the ban on Michael Ian Dean-Norman, 19, after he admitted causing criminal damage using threatening behaviour in a branch of the Coral bookmakers – and using threatening behaviour against a member of staff.

Dean-Norman, whose address was given in court as John Street when he appeared at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court, originally denied both allegations.

But on the day he was due to face trial he changed his pleas to guilty.

Prosecutor Andy Travis told the city's Rickergate court that the defendant – who became annoyed when asked to provide proof of his age – committed both offences on December 13 last year while he was in a local branch of Coral bookmakers.

He caused criminal damage to a screen worth £100, the court heard.

After hearing brief details, magistrates adjourned sentencing the defendant until October 5.

The defendant was granted bail with a single condition – that he does not enter any betting shop in the Carlisle area.
