AS ANOTHER Roman archaeological dig is occurring in our city we look back on other excavations.
These digs have helped to reveal the historical significance of Carlisle and the legacy that the Roman Empire left behind.
The current excavation is to uncover a Roman Bath House at Carlisle Cricket Club in Stanwix.
Councillor John Mallinson said: "We have a rich Roman history and we're delighted that this funding will enable us to discover even more about Carlisle's past."
As pictured previous digs have also occurred at sites in the Stanwix area and also at Carlisle Cathedral and the airport.
In recent digs historical artifacts have been unearthed like tiles and other materials from the medieval era.
The abundance of findings in the Carlisle area highlights our rich history and shows the part Carlisle played internationally.
