Cumbrian teenagers James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite have earned an international call-up.

The Premier League duo have been named in the England Under-20 squad.

Manchester City goalkeeper Trafford, from Greysouthen, and Everton defender Branthwaite, from Wigton, are in a 23-man squad for a game against Romania next month.

It is the second time the Cumbrian pair have teamed up on international duty, having been together with the Under-19s last year.

Trafford, 18, is currently gaining first-team experience on loan with Accrington Stanley in League One, where he has kept back-to-back clean sheets.

Branthwaite, meanwhile, made his first appearance of the season for Everton under Rafa Benitez in their Carabao Cup win at Huddersfield this week.

The former Carlisle United star, 19, recently returned to action after an ankle injury which he suffered whilst on loan with Blackburn last season.

The two former Carlisle academy players will join up for a training camp which will be followed by the clash with Romania at St George's Park on Monday, September 6.

Further games follow this year for Andy Edwards' Under-20s at home to Italy on October 7, and away to the Czech Republic on October 11 and Portugal on November 11.

Edwards has been confirmed as head coach of the Under-20s, assisted by Jason Euell with Danny Alcock the goalkeeping coach.
