Pride in North Cumbria has announced that they will be officially opening a new hub, centre, shop and museum in the heart of Carlisle.

The centre will be called Free Radicals, and they describe it as a 'solidarity hub for Carlisle that champions counter culture, activism and all those who are under represented in society.'

Free Radicals is a project designed and run by Pride in North Cumbria (PiNC), the county’s only designated youth centre for LGBTQ+ young people.

PiNC is a charitable organisation with over 15 years of operational experience.

The centre has been put up after working with the Museum of Youth Culture, and will be exhibiting everyday people who have been part of cultural and social movements over the past century.

The founder, Steven Westgarth, said: "During this time we have developed from a small social group, into an organisation that now also performs outreach, campaigns, consultation and more, to support and protect Cumbria's LGBT+ young people.

"Commisions on sales go to support the youth centre and we would like to thank Travis Perkins Wigton, Wickes Carlisle, F S Potts & Son and Bookends/Bookcase for their support with setting up."

The hub opens officially on Saturday, August 14, and will sell hair dyes from Bleach London Hair Dyes, ceramics, local art, plants magazines, custom skateboard decks, vintage furniture, second hand bicycles, comics. and more.

The centre plans to host talks and workshops throughout their time open as well, that opens the eye to what subcultures are present.
