This week saw ladies’ night at Carlisle Racecourse go ahead on a beautiful sunny evening, showing the Blackwell Road course off at its best.
It’s always a popular night with racegoers and those who just enjoy the social occasion. Ladies enjoy dressing up to the nines, meeting up with friends and placing the odd bet.
And it’s not only ladies’ night for the racegoers — it’s the only race meeting in the country at which every jockey in every race is female and of course Carlisle Racecourse has a female general manager in Molly Dingwall.
So we’ve been looking back through our racing archives for photographs from ladies’ nights from the early 2000s when it looks as if the sun always shone on ladies’ night.
