The owner of a Carlisle music bar and nightclub said she is simply glad that the business is still around as it celebrates its seventh year this weekend.

Deja Vu was originally set up as a music bar that catered for lovers of 80s, 70s and 60s disco classics - something which wasn't offered in Carlisle at the time.

Owner, Julie Brown said: "This has been a dream of mine for fifteen years.

"At the time we didn't have any 80s bars in Carlisle.

"I set this bar up for people my age that still wanted to go out, but didn't want to listen to a certain type of music.

"They wanted the music they liked and and probably played when they were at home."

Julie said that Deja Vu, which is aimed at all age groups, has had a tough Covid-19 pandemic like most businesses across the country.

However, she added that the past seven years have flown by and that she is simply glad that the business is still there.

"Even with the sixteen month closure during the pandemic, it doesn't feel like seven years," said Julie.

"It's been a really good seven years apart from the pandemic, but I just feel really lucky that we've come through the other side of it.

"I still have a business, but many don't.

"When I first opened, somebody heard someone else saying 'I'll give it six months and it will be closed'.

"That was just the way bars were going at the time.

"But seven years later, here we are."

Julie said that it still feels like she is living the dream she had 15 years ago.

She added: "Every weekend is different.

"The first weekend we opened was quite stressful because we didn't know if it was going to take off and we didn't know if it was people wanted.

"From then on it just got busier and busier."
