Readers have been responding to a story following Mark Jenkison, the Member of Parliament for Workington’s threats to boycott their party conference if coronavirus vaccine passports are required for entry.

Mark Jenkinson, Conservative MP for Workington, said he was double jabbed and booked for the venue, but said he was against what he saw as “excluding” people.

Mr Jenkinson said: “I won’t be going to conference if we’re excluding people on the basis of their vaccination status.

“I have no problem with people having to show negative tests or vaccination like at some of the events I’ve been to. But if we’re purely basing it on vaccination status, like the nightclub passport, then I have an issue with it.

“I have been reassured by the party chairman that the conference will follow government guidance, so it just remains to be seen what guidance will be put in place come October.

“I just don’t think we should be excluding, whether it’s sections of society at nightclubs or sections of my party and younger party activists, purely on the basis of vaccination status.”

Ian Green said: “Jenkinson works for the drinks lobby, they hate pandemic restrictions.

“They paid for his Wembley and Royal Ascot trips.

“He’s just the worst, isn’t he?”

Will Hatton said: “People who are offered something and choose not to do it despite it being in both their best interests and in the interests of society at large are not being excluded, they are excluding themselves.

“It’s like someone complaining about not going to a party when they were invited but chose to decline. “

Darren Ward said: “Is this the same MP  who’s ‘excluded’ most of his constituents from his Facebook page?

“Constitutes should ‘exclude’ him from the next election.”

Andy Sabin-Hope said: “I’ll believe when he stops talking and starts acting.”
