Readers have been responding to a story following delays on the M6 Southbound.

This comes at a time when the Lake District is set to see an influx of tourist making their way to the popular tourist destination as the warm weather continues across the county.

Stretches of the M6 and M61 in Lancashire are also at a standstill as the great Friday holiday getaway begins.

Thousands of motorists are travelling north towards Blackpool, the Lakes and Scotland as children break up for the summer.

It's set to be another warm weekend with temperatures in our region set to hit 24C.

And the great weekend getaway is in full swing with long delays on Lancashire and Cumbria's motorways.

Here is what you had to say.

Jemma Green said: "It’s every day there’s a back up from Penrith slip road that ends up one mile down the first lane of the motorway.

"More needs done about it. Cars are pulling out from 0mph into the middle lane where cars are still doing 70[mph] then you get other cars driving down the hard shoulder."

Dave Macdonald said: "[I] just got back from Liverpool from Jct27-33.

"[It was] utter bedlam.

"[I have] never seen it so busy."

Reports of heavy delays on the M6 are not uncommon.

Earlier this summer it was seen that there were queues of traffic Northbound towards the Lakes because everyone was going on holiday there.

This was, according to many, a result of the pandemic restrictions which advised strongly against travelling abroad, lest they face hefty fees to get tests, and therefore were advised to holiday in their own country.

Cars both then and today were seen stretching for miles of traffic, something that is also a result of a lot of work that is being done.

The work on the motorways is located along several stretches of the M6 motorway and features speed limits of 50mph, and lane closures meaning sudden merges are required.
