A YOUTH centre is hosting a Lego competition to give young people in Carlisle something proactive to do during the summer holidays.

Carlisle Youth Zone is hosting a Lego competition with entries open now, it is part of the charity’s ambitions to keep young people in the city engaged and inspired.

Models can either be built at home, at Carlisle Youth Zone for members or BrickStation in Carlisle. A small entry fee applies for the latter.

Models can either be designed as buildings, architecture or your dream house on Earth, Mars or a fantasy world.

The best entry will be named “The Lego Master” and awarded a PS5.

Those who wish to enter are being asked to download and print out the application on the charity’s website.

Each entry form must include five images of the models with at least one image of the participant holding their model.

Every young person that enters the competition will receive a free membership to Brick Station, where they can play and build in Carlisle.

Entries can also be submitted electronically via Facebook messenger.

Lynsey Buckle, development manager at Carlisle Youth Zone said: “The aim of the competition is to build something incredible, something that’s going to blow our minds.”

The competition is the brainchild of Carlisle based architects Unwin Jones.

Lynsey said: “They came to us because they saw online a young boy who was making football stadiums out of Lego.

“It got them thinking about how Lego was the start of their love of architecture.”

Unwin Jones hope that the competition inspires the next generation of builders and architects.

Story Contracting visited the youth zone at Victoria Place on Wednesday and Unwin Jones architects are hosting workshops with young people during the school holidays.
