As the end of the summer term approaches, many teachers and other school staff will be leaving school for the last time as they retire.
So this week we’ve been looking back at farewell presentations in north and west Cumbrian schools over the years.
Marjorie Mallinson retired as a midday supervisor at Bishop Goodwin School in 2002 where she had worked since 1981, but wasn’t breaking all her links with the school as she was going to continue to work as a lollipop lady.
For Joan Nicholson, the fun day at Stanwix School in Carlisle in 2002 was an extra special event. Joan, a year one teacher, was retiring after twenty one years at the school, and thirty six as a teacher. To mark her long contribution, she was guest of honour to open the day’s activities.
