Here are more photos from the past recording the retirements of long-serving, and much-loved, members of school staff.
Top left is Margaret Jewell, who retired as class room assistant from Belah School in Carlisle after 27 years during which time she helped teach her daughter, Michelle Griffiths, and grandson, Ian Griffiths.
A popular headteacher, Jim Farnell, headteacher at Crosscanonby St John’s School retired after 16 years, is pictured with his year 6 pupils.
Mrs Mary Allison, headmistress of Brampton Infants’ School, retired in 1974 after 22 years.
Generations of children who attended St Michael’s School in Dalston will remember Mrs Scarborough as she kindly shepherded them safely across the busy road into school. Do you remember any of these retirees?
