Dinosaurs might well be ruling the earth - or Carlisle at least - for one more day as one of the city's theatres hosts a dino-themed exhibition.

The Harraby Theatre in Carlisle will be hosting the popular Dino Safari Live exhibition, which has been touring the country, next month.

There will be two showings of the exhibition at the theatre on August 19, featuring life like mechanical dinosaurs that have even featured on television channels, like BBC, ITV and Sky.

Centre Manager for the Harraby Theatre, Liz Jackson, said the opportunity for visitors meet the Brachisaurus, Triceratops, T-Rex and "terrifying" Velociraptors will be a fantastic opportunity for families who are thinking twice about travelling abroad for their holidays.

She said: "We just thought that during the holidays this year, not a lot of people will be going abroad and will be choosing to stay in the UK.

"It might appeal to people who haven't been out in a while, and it's something for the children as well.

"Dinosaurs are always popular.

The event, being organised by Cumbrian-based Platinum Wolf Promotions, is another positive moment for local theatres, said Liz, who has enjoyed seeing faces return to the Harraby.

She added: "It's amazing. Like every other theatre in the UK, we've had to re-arrange so many events.

"It's just been crazy, but we're absolutely delighted to be able to hold something, especially a family event.

"It's about what you can do, not what you can't do now. We need to make it work, and we will do it as long as we're allowed and as long as everyone feels safe enough to come along and enjoy it.

"We are delighted to be able to welcome people back to the theatre. It's been a long time.

The first show is at 2.45pm, and the second will be taking place from 5pm.
