CUMBRIA'S young farmers proved they had pulling power when they gathered to take part in the Cumbria YFC Tug of War County Final which took place at the Westmorland County Agricultural Society Showfield.

Although Covid restrictions were still in place and the competition ran without the usual crowd of spectators in force, the day was still a resounding success with some excellent competition between teams taking place.

The results were as follows: Mixed Juniors: 1, Skelton, 2, Grayrigg, 3, Sedbergh, 4, Crook; Ladies: 1, Greysouthen, 2, Sedbergh, 3, Skelton, 4, Grayrigg; Men's: 1, Sedbergh, 2, Grayrigg, 3, Eden Valley, 4, Skelton.

The top three teams will now go on to compete at the Northern Area Field Day, hosted by the Northern Area Committee which will take place on Sunday, August 8 at the Westmorland Showfield.

Judges were Judith Emmott, Clare Johnson and Derek Wilson. Chief Steward: Helen Sibbald, and Stewards: Kerry Stevens, Laura Graham, Chelle Buchanan, Michelle Pratt, Paul Barrow, John Garnett, Neil Curr, Jess Rogerson and Hannah Sowerby. Special thanks went to The Westmorland County Agricultural Society for allowing us use of their show field and in particular Christine Knipe and David Galbraith for their help on the day.
