Gareth Southgate says the chance to give the nation something to celebrate is a "special" opportunity for his England side.

The Three Lions take on Denmark tonight for a place in the Euro 2020 final (Wembley, 8pm).

Major tournament glory for the first time since 1966 would bring about huge celebrations across the country.

And head coach Southgate says the opportunity to give fans and the Engish population something to savour much be cherished.

"The opportunity to bring happiness and create brilliant nights for our fans, our nation, is a very special one that you have when you play with England," he told the BBC.

"They are matches that you remember where you were, and some of the nicest messages you get are that people appreciate how the players have been - that they feel they can connect with them.

"They should be very proud of that."

England go into the game having yet to concede a goal in five Euro 2020 matches.

Ex-Carlisle United keeper Jordan Pickford has kept five clean sheets so far.

That makes him the first goalkeeper ever to produce shut-outs in each of his first five matches in a European Championships tournament.

The nation will be glued to their screens for tonight's Wembley encounter with the Danes, with Carlisle United's Sunset Suite hosting a sell-out viewing event.

It is a second major championship semi-final under Southgate after 2018's World Cup run.

The England boss said: "We are better prepared for this semi-final in that we've lived it before.

"Although that doesn't determine winning or losing a game of football, there are a lot of factors that we are aware of and we have dealt with before that help you to prepare in a better way."
