Carlisle hammer thrower Nick Miller will be competing at the Tokyo Olympics after being named in Team GB's squad today.

The Commonwealth champion will go for glory this summer after being confirmed as the latest Cumbrian heading to Japan.

It will be a second shot at Olympic success for Miller, 28, after he competed in the 2016 Games in Rio.

He is joined by Taylor Campbell in Team GB's men's hammer-throwing ranks for Tokyo.

Miller, from Scotby, did not take part in last weekend's British Championship after being given a medical exemption.

But the Cumbrian will be on the plane to Japan having already bettered the Tokyo standard of 77.50m recently.

Miller, the British record holder, is among 72 athletes nominated to represent Team GB at the Games which start next month.

His confirmation in the squad comes shortly after fellow Cumbrians Lauren Smith (badminton) and Oliver Dustin (800m) were named.

Olympic Head Coach at UK Athletics, Christian Malcolm, said, “Every athlete and their support network should be incredibly proud of their achievement during a challenging last 18 months.

"As we saw from the high-quality British Athletics Championships and Trials at the weekend, a number of athletes stepped up and delivered exceptional performances to earn their nomination to Team GB.

“To represent your country at an Olympic Games is an incredibly rewarding achievement, whether you have competed at a Games previously or if this is your first call-up.

"My message to those athletes nominated is enjoy this moment and keep your focus in these last few weeks as we countdown to the Games.”
