TWO Teenage boy's from Whitehaven have ran a half marathon inspired by Rob Burrow at the weekend.

Preston Meloy, 12, and friend Ben Pierce, 14, were inspired to do the fundraising after watching the documentary about Burrow, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease that they decided to run a half marathon to raise money for the MND Association.

Rob Burrow, who had previously played for Leed's United RLFC was diagnosed with the condition in December of 2019, he has since worked to raise awareness of the condition as well as trying to raise funds to find a cure.

The pair completed their half marathon on Sunday morning, with a time of two hours and fifteen minutes finishing off at Whitehaven harbour.

This was another victory for the two Whitehaven boys, after previously training towards a two hour and 30 minute finish.

Burrow tweeted the pair to thank them for their epic challenge.

He said: "Well done guys. What an achievement"

Kevin Sinfield also sent a video message to the boy's praising them for their efforts on the day that he was awarded his OBE.

So far the boy's have raised more than £4200 for the MND Association that helps to look at ways of finding cures for the life debilitating disease.

On Sunday the boy's were joined by West Cumbrian Marathon man Gary Mckee, as well as his running mates who completed the marathon alongside Preston and Ben.

Friends from Hensingham Rugby League club also joined in at various points to help encourage the pair along the way.

Talking about the half marathon,Preston said: “Saturday was great, I was blown away with how much support we received on the day, it was hard to run that distance but when you think about what Rob Burrow is going everyday it is nothing really, so glad we could do something to help the MND community. It was also good to have the Support of the local Rugby Clubs and all my family and friends”

Ben was proud of the amount of money he and Preston have managed to raise, as well as the amount of awareness it has created around the condition as well as Rob's story.

He said: "The support we got was amazing and helped us keep going when it got tough and I'd like to thank everyone who helped especially Preston for being my running mate."
