A west Cumbrian hospice has been celebrating completing a first-of-its-kind event for the charity.

Over 80 people joined Hospice at Home West Cumbria for their Scafell at Sunset event on June 4, helping to raise over £10,000 for the hospice.

Event organiser, Stella Walsh said: “We were really excited to bring this new event into our calendar, and we couldn’t have wished for a better evening.

"The weather was beautiful, which gave us some fantastic views and everyone that joined us was in great spirits, the atmosphere really was something special."

It was a tough climb, but everyone dug deep and made it to the summit in time for the sunset and a toast to their loved ones”.

Led by local guiding company the Lakeland Mountain Guides, participant’s set off up to the summit at

7pm to watch the sunset over the North Sea and made it back down five hours later.

Local company Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors the main sponsors of the event. Carol Fish Marketing

Director said: “We were delighted to support and sponsor such a fantastic and successful event raising

vital funds for a much-needed local charity. Our staff who took part enjoyed it immensely and it was

heart-warming to experience at first hand the efforts of all those involved.”

Marie Oglanby from Dearham who took part with friend Susan Farley said: “We had a brilliant time

and really enjoyed the evening with such a great group. The views were spectacular, and it was very

well organised. I hope it raises a good amount for hospice.”

The event has raised in excess of £10,000 through sponsorship which will help the charity to provide

palliative, end of life care and emotional support services across West Cumbria.
