A NEW fund-raising challenge has been launched to mark what would have been Prince Philip's 100th Birthday.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is today launching Do It 4 Youth - a four part, four week Duke of Edinburgh Award-inspired sponsored challenge to raise money for young people across the UK.

Each region has been allocated a team captain, who will encourage residents to raise funding that will go towards helping young people from the toughest backgrounds build life-long belief in themselves by doing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Five time Paralympic gold medal winner and 12 time World Champion wheelchair racer Hannah Cockcroft has been named as captain for the North, along with 14-year-old Ashley from Salford, who holds a bronze DofE award.

They are joined by JJ Chalmers, James McVey, Alice Beer, Oliver Phelps, Matt Johnson and Zoe Salmon.

Hannah said: "I’m from Halifax, so a proud Yorkshire woman. For millions of young people, including myself, doing the DofE is a totally life-changing experience.

"I learnt a level of independence and resilience without which I would not have had my level of sporting success. The money you raise will enable more young people to begin their own adventure."
