A KNIFE-wielding man robbed staff at a Bargain Booze store in the city.

At the city's crown court, Jack Connor Little , 28, entered a guilty plea to the offence, which he committed at Old Raffles Parade store on April 20.

Judge Nicholas Barker told the defendant, of Hebden Avenue, Morton, he is likely to be jailed. But the judge agreed to adjourn sentencing so background reports can be prepared.

"I have seen his previous convictions and his offending history is not significant," said the judge.

Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson said that the two women who were Little's victims had prepared "impactful" statements about how they were affected.

Judge Barker told Little: "You have pleaded guilty to this charge of robbery.

"You know as well as anybody how serious this offence is, involving the robbery of a small convenience store and off-licence with a knife and threats being made.

"So it is a serious matter." But there was always a reason behind such offending, which in Little's case was a "serious escalation" of his criminal history, commented the judge.

He asked the Probation Service to prepare a report on the defendant.

Despite that course of action, said the judge, there would "almost certainly" be a jail sentence. Little, who was remanded in custody, will be sentenced on July 9.
