A woman from Penrith is in a critical condition following a serious two vehicle crash on Saturday.

Cumbria Police were called to the B6260 Orton Scar road at 4pm on Saturday June 5 to the report of a two vehicle road traffic collision.

The collision involved an Peugeot 208 and an MG A.

The driver the MG a 71-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle a 69-year-old woman was taken the Royal Victoria infirmary where she remains in a critical condition. Both are from Penrith.

The driver of the Peugeot a 40-year-old man from Bolton has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle whilst above the legal alcohol limit.

He has been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to contact them with any information they may have in relation to the collision."
