Open day has arrived for the Fountain Gallery which opened its doors for the first time this week.

The gallery has been in Wigton for almost 10 years and is a cooperative of artist displaying and selling their work.

the move in to the former bank on King Street that was used as a cannabis farm has given the group more space to display their work.

Standing on the main route through the town, the former bank has had a rough couple of years.

Just last year, police swooped on the site in a drug operation that resulted in two arrests.

But now the property has been snapped up and work is under way for the rest of the building to offer opportunities for other business to find their home in the town.

Since 2011, Wigton’s popular Fountain Gallery has showcased the work of artists in its premises in High Street and artist Connie Jenson is thrilled at how well the space looks she said: "Everything is fresh and new, it's light and airy in here and we have so much space.

"WE have lots more in her and we don't feel cluttered.

"Now we have so much space we would love more artist to join our cooperative."

Pleased with their first week she is happy that people have been coming in and they have even made a number of sales.

She said: "It's nice for people to come in to a gallery like this, they get to meet the artist and find out the story behind the work and in many cases that makes it more special."

The gallery displays work from the 26 member of the group and they take turn staffing the shop they also plan on displaying work from two different guest artist each month.

Connie continued: "The owner of the building is amazing he is really community minded and want business in the town."

The fountain Gallery will be open and display painted work, ceramics, crafts, wood work and jewellery and will be open to the public Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 4pm and it will also be open Wednesday and Saturday between 10am and 1pm.
