A Cumbria pub has been named one of the country’s most friendly venues for dogs.

Pubs chosen had to be scenic, dog-friendly, and provide access to walks and National Trust trails, ranked by the number of Instagram hashtag posts for each pub.

The Punch Bowl Inn at Crosthwaite has been tagged in 660 posts in all.

The Cumbria favourite came in ninth position in the table, with the Ship Inn in the Peak District coming top.

Nestled in the hills about Windermere, the pub is the starting point for a nine-mile walk around the lake.

Reflecting on the findings, Holland Country Clothing’s MD Matthew Holland said:

“With lockdown restrictions easing over the last month, many have been keen to get back out into the British countryside.

"Unfortunately, the British weather has had other ideas – with heavy rain throughout May, many have been waiting for the sun to come back before venturing out.

“And with the bank holiday looking promising, there’s never been a better time to get out with friends – both the regular and the furry kinds – and explore the best pubs and days out."
