PARKRUNS across the county have been delayed once more just as councils had began to give approval for the event’s to go ahead.

The Saturday morning runs received the go ahead from all council’s in Cumbria before having to be postponed due to some landowners not allowing permission for the events to be held on their grounds.

Parkrun thought that although more than 250 of their events do have permission, it would be wrong to push foward when there are more than 30,000 people in attendance at various runs on one weekend.

Speaking on the Parkrun blog, Nick Pearson, parkrun Global CEO, said: “We will continue to work hard with landowners over the coming weeks to secure the permissions needed to return at the end of June.

"We are incredibly grateful to all of the landowners who have granted events permission to return so far, and for the groundswell of support for parkrun over recent days.”

Workington, Whitehaven, Penrith, Carlisle, |Bower, Keswick and Whinlatter Forest parkruns had all been given the go ahead to start on June 5, however now face a three week delay until June 26.

Alison Rowsell, who organises the Penrith parkrun said: “Eden District Council were particularly quick out of the blocks to give their go ahead and it will be absolutely brilliant when we are all park running together again.”

Carlisle City Council gave the go ahead for the event, which see’s people attending for free at 9am on a Saturday morning on Wednesday.

Parkrun bosses thanked the council on social media for allowing the event to go ahead.

But while many parkrunners are disappointed by the delay, many Cumbrian runners praised the county's authority for approving their go ahead quickly.
