CARING primary school students are doing their bit for Cancer Research by running around a circuit 100 times.

Penruddock Primary School pupils were motivated to raise funds for Cancer Research UK after hearing about the Captain Tom 100 Challenge.

After considering ideas for a ‘100’ challenge, 13 pupils from Class 2 decided to create a circuit of their school field and run or walk it 100 times.

Pupils estimate it will take them six attempts to complete the ambitious challenge of 100 laps.

Isabelle, aged 8 and a student at the village school said: “I am really enjoying running around the school field with my friends.

She said: “I hope it will help the caring people who work for Cancer Research to do their job and help the patients who have the disease to get better.”

With her donation to the fundraiser, teacher Miss O’Donnell said: “What a brilliant challenge Class 2. Good luck, I know you all can do it.”

Pupils of the Eden school have set themselves the target of raising £150 but are hopeful they can raise the bar.

Anyone who would like to support their cause is being asked to visit the Penruddock School Facebook page to donate via the Just Giving link.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We would be so grateful for any donations to our charity.

“Please share it with your friends and family to help us.

They said: “You can also bring a donation in cash to school if you would prefer.

“We will keep you posted on how we are getting on.

Captain Tom 100 is a national campaign, challenging people everywhere to benefit good causes in memory of the late veteran who raised more than £30 million for the NHS.

As village youngsters are completing laps of their school field, Captain Tom completed 100 laps of his garden to raise the funds.

He completed the challenge just in time for his 100th birthday, the public are being asked to raise funds for causes personal to them in the run up to what would have been his 101st, April 30. The public can keep up with Penruddock youngsters as they take on their very own Captain Tom 100 challenge on their Facebook page where they are providing regular updates.
