Andrew Robert Mitchell, 32, appeared at the city's Rickergate court charged with 11 shop thefts as well as failing to pay an outstanding fine.

He admitted stealing:

  • Booze worth £205 from Tesco on March 15; and a like offence – involving alcohol worth £160 from the same store – the following day.
  • Meat worth £100 from Aldi on March 25.
  • Alcohol and electronic goods worth £231 from Tesco in Carlisle on April 1, followed the following day by a theft of alcohol worth £220 from the same supermarket.
  • Champagne and candles worth £222 from Tesco on April 3.
  • Goods worth £1,138 from Asda on March 26, and goods worth £550 from the same store on April 15.
