SEVERAL key roads across Cumbria will be closed for a number of weeks due to roadworks - with major diversions in place.
Cumbria County Council records all the areas across the county where roadworks will be taking place.
They inform people of the date these are due to start, how long they are likely to last and the diversion routes in place.
We've taken a look at some of the roadworks that could see drivers diverted further then they'd think.
- Hesket Newmarket
Diversion - 13.2miles
A section of the road at Hesket Newmarket has been closed since April 12 and is expected to be closed until May 7.
The road is closed at Howbeck School House, Hesket Newmarket and the diversion will take about 23 minutes according to Cumbria County Council's website.
A diversion route has been posted which is as follows:
1. Head south-east towards Pasture Ln
2. Continue onto Salter Lonning
3. Turn left onto B5305
4. Turn left onto B5299
5. Turn left to stay on B5299
6. Turn left.
- Thirlmere, Keswick
Diversions - 9.13miles
A section of the road near Thirlmere has been closed since August last year and roadworks are expected to be in place until February 10, 2022.
The diversion is expected to take about 21 minutes.
Alternative Route for motor vehicles: via the unrestricted section of the U7003 on the eastern side of Thirlmere and the A591 on the western side of Thirlmere.
A diversion route has been posted which is as follows:
1. Head north towards A591
2. Turn right onto A591
3. Turn right Destination will be on the left.
- Grizebeck To Greenodd Via Lowick Green, Grizebeck
Diversion - 20.6miles
A temporary road closure is required to enable Cumbria Highway to carry out highway works.
The roadworks started on April 18 and is expected to last until July 19.
A diversion is in place. The diversion can be found here:
1. Head west on A5092
2. Turn left onto A595
3. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A590
4. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Ulverston Rd/A590
Continue to follow A590
5. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto County Rd/A590
Continue to follow A590. Parts of this road may be closed at certain times or on certain days
6. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Oubas Hill/A590
Continue to follow A590. Parts of this road may be closed at certain times or on certain days
7. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A5092. Destination will be on the left.
- Silver Howe, Ulverston
Diversion - 34.1miles
Reactivation road closure is required to enable Cumbria Highways to carry out highway works.
The diversion will take about 1 hour and 5 minutes.
The route is as follows:
1. Head south on Water Yeat towards A5084. Restricted-usage road
2. Turn right at the 1st cross street onto A5084
3. Turn left onto A5092
4. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A590
5. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A592
6. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Ambleside Rd/A591. Continue to follow A591
7. Slight left onto Borrans Rd/A5095
8. Turn left onto A593
9. Turn left to stay on A593
10. Turn left onto A5084
Destination will be on the right.
