The pride of the county will arrive next week and the Great North Air Ambulance wants you to send in your requests for a visit.

An appeal was launched in March to name the new Great North Air Ambulance and raise funds to support the service after purchasing the helicopter.

Readers of Newsquest Cumbria answered, raising roughly £120,000 for the Fund Our Fleet appeal.

Our poll of the five best reader submitted names last week saw Pride of Cumbria II come out on top with 35 per cent of the 1,305 votes. The new air ambulance helicopter has been assembled, painted in the iconic GNAAS colours and is almost ready to make its maiden voyage to Cumbria.

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “It looks great, it’s got its new name as given to it by the readers. We’re going on its first journey into the county and we want to take it on a tour of the people and the places it’s going to serve in the future.”

One lucky home, business or school could be a stop on the tour. To get involved and make a request for a fly-over, get in touch with GNAAS on social media with the hashtag: hellocopter.

Tell the air ambulance service why the new helicopter should fly over your house or workplace and lifesavers will pick one on Monday.

Pride of Cumbria II’s arrival date is yet to be confirmed but she will take a tour of the county on her way to Langwathby. GNAAS have been overwhelmed by the support for their fundraiser.

“It has surpassed all of our expectations, the money continues to come in for it and we’re just incredibly grateful to everyone for helping out.”
