A Cumbrian mountain rescue team assisted a 60 year old who had fallen on Striding Edge. 

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Cumbria Police at 2pm on Saturday 

To assist a 60 year old man from the North East who had slipped on Striding Edge, he sustained an injury to his ankle in the fall.

The team deployed 16 lifesavers responded who made their way up to the scene.

Due to the remoteness of the location, the team decided to request the assistance of the Coastguard and a rescue helicopter was scrambled from Prestwick. 

The casualty was assessed by a first aider who put a splint on his ankle.

He was winched from Striding Edge by the aircraft and flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where a fracture to his right ankle was confirmed. 

It took 16 mountain rescue team members four hours to assist the casualty.
