Cleator Moor is the second most affordable town in the UK, according to recent figures released by estate agents, Zoopla.

With the stamp duty holiday extended until the end of June, Zoopla said prospective buyers may feel this is the ample opportunity to look at homes with more space for their money.

Cleator Moor’s gross annual income is £82,924 and the average property price is £96,269, meaning it would take 1.16 years worth of average annual salary to afford a property in the town.

Properties in Shildon, County Durham, cost just £804 per m², which is the cheapest in the UK.

Coun. Oliver Dorgan of Cleator Moor said of the news: “That’s excellent to hear. Cleator moor has a lot going for it. I would advise anyone to come and live here.

"I think its proximity to the Lakes and that we’re near to a beautiful Georgian town – Whitehaven – make this a fantastic place to live. I’m proud to live here and to have been brought up here. I’m sure that Cleator Moor has a very bright future ahead of it.”

Whilst relocating to another region to get on to the property ladder may not be an option for everyone, Zoopla’s analysis highlights that simply moving to a nearby town may fit within budgets for prospective buyers.

Tom Parker head of communications at Zoopla, said: “With the stamp duty holiday extended once again and budgets remaining tight, prospective buyers may be wanting to save money by looking into purchasing a home in an affordable town.

“The easing of restrictions marks an opportunity for buyers to perhaps think more seriously about purchasing a new property. Visiting these locations is vital to understand the true potential of the affordable towns in the UK, and realise the important factor of getting more space for your money.”
