The sun was shining for a popular attraction's big reopening.

Walby Farm Park, near Carlisle, was among dozens of Cumbrian venues able to open up their outside attractions yesterday.

Farmer Neil Milbourn and his wife Katie, together with the help of three daughters Holly, Izzie and Liv, have been keeping the paddocks and fields well tended over the lockdown months for a smooth transition back to normalcy.

Speaking in one of his regular Facebook videos, Neil praised the support the farm has received throughout lockdown.

"It’s humbling to know that people really do miss us and we’re looking forward to opening more of our venues in the coming weeks," he said.

"Five weeks from today we’re hoping to open our play areas with limited capacity and then hopefully we’ll really get moving.”

To keep people updated about the goings-on within the farm, ‘Team Walby,’ frequently posted videos on Facebook with updates about the animals and the farm.

Neil said he enjoyed the interactions he’s had with people and answering their questions: “While in lockdown, everyone and all the team have done so much for us - its been really tough.

"But we wanted to showcase the experience of running a farm, lambing season, what farmers do and how things don’t go according to plan, and it’s been very rewarding.”

Neil and his family recently welcomed several new arrivals to the farm, including a couple of Herdwick lambs and a baby llama. Neil hopes visitors will come to see them.

“I want to say a massive good luck to friends and colleagues through-out the country, on farms such as this and other attractions," he concluded his video.

"It feels good to be reopening.”
