A TEENAGER has been banned from driving after he tested positive for cannabis while behind the wheel in the space of four days.

Liam James Little (19) of Moor Park Avenue, Carlisle, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Friday, April 8.

He faced one charge of driving while over the legal limit for a controlled drug - namely cannabis - on the M6 in Cumbria on September 25 last year.

He was found to have 10 microgrammes of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood, exceeding the legal limit.

Little also faced a second charge for the same offence on Sandsfield Lonning in Carlisle on September 21, where he was found to have 14 microgrammes of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood.

In addition, the teenager faced a further charge for possession of cannabis relating to an incident in Workington on September 22.

While cannabis consumption is illegal, the legal limit is 2 microgrammes per litre of blood.

Little pleaded guilty to all three charges at a hearing yesterday.

For driving on Sandsfield Lonning, he was disqualified from driving for 16 months, and fined £300. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 to the CPS and a victim surcharge of £65.

For possessing cannabis, he was fined £50 and the cannabis was forfeited and destroyed. For driving on the M6 while over the legal limit, he was fined a further £300.
