READERS have voiced their opinion after residents called for a 50mph speed limit in the wake of another crash on the A596.

Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash between a car and a lorry on March 21.

It follows a serious collision a month earlier in which a woman suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.

The road from Wigton to Thursby had been closed for several hours as emergency services freed people from the wreckage and dealt with the aftermath.

Resident and councillor Alan Pitcher believes something needs to be done about the stretch of road, where the 50mph limit increases to 60mph. He said: “These crashes are all in the same places.

"It’s not the road, drivers need to be slowed down — we need more traffic-calming measures.”

Here's what you thought:
Bob Harvey posted: "What the hell is happening on Cumbrian roads - is it driver error or just bad road layouts?"

Emma Jane said: "Just been on that stretch of road, can't believe how many cars over took when we were doing 60mph."

Dominic Mahon said: "Just put a roundabout there and have it done with."

George Ports posted: "Nothing to do with speed the roads are a joke.

"The amount of potholes in Cumbria are unbelievable.

"They would rather fill them in knowing they will only last two minutes."

Graeme Messenger said: "The road has more potholes than a field full of moles."

Anne Scott said: "We live at Micklethwaite, the amount of accidents are increasing."
