A CUMBRIAN forest park came in at number four in the list of most popular destinations for a socially distanced meet-up beyond March 29.

The public are set to venture back outside in pairs as Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s lockdown roadmap falls into play on Monday March 29.

Whinlatter Forest Park was ranked at number four on the list by CBD company Eden’s Gate.

It was compiled by studying Ordnance Survey data of the largest UK parks and their proximity to a coffee shop to discover which green spaces are the best for socially distanced meet-ups with loved ones in the UK.

Tyler Woodward, CEO of Eden’s Gate said: “Spending time with friends and family while being outside in the natural world is a fantastic way to improve your wellbeing.

“The easing of lockdown and return to socialisation outdoors is a key pivot point for the nation’s mental well-being and return to social ‘normality’, especially in tackling experiences of loneliness and isolation.

He said: “After five long months of winter lockdown, we are all ready to welcome this return to safe socialising outdoors and we welcome the positive impact this will have on the population’s health and wellbeing.”

Whinlatter is joined in the top ten by Lyme Park, Wimbledon Common in Greater London, Holkham Park in Norfolk, Eglinton Country Park, Bradgate Park and Lochore Meadows Country Park in Fife.

From Monday, the public will be able to visit public spaces for a walk and a coffee on a park bench with a friend.

The decision was made based on evidence that it is safer to meet outdoors.

Whinlatter’s Rule of Six capacity stands at 562,083.

As well as public spaces, people will be able to meet, socially distanced in each other’s gardens.

Groups of up to six, or two households are permitted in these situations.

Outdoor sports facilities like basketball courts, tennis courts and open air swimming pools will also be allowed to open from Monday. The official ‘Stay at home’ order also ends on Monday.
