Children and staff at Moor Row primary school were excited to be joined by an innovative disinfecting robot, who helped out with a clean, in preparation for the schools reopening.
The remotely-operated robot was developed by Forth last year as a response to the fight against Covid-19.
It has helped several organisations to disinfect, including Gen2 in preparation for the return of students.
Mark Telford, managing director of Forth, said: “It was a pleasure to use innovative technology we have developed here in West Cumbria to benefit children in our community.
“School teachers and support staff, pupils and parents have all been through a lot over the last 12 months. It was great to bring smiles to some faces when we used our disinfecting robot to ensure the outdoor playground equipment at Moor Row Community Primary School was safe ahead of children returning to school this week.”
Science co-ordinator at the school Alison Heywood said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Forth Engineering into school on March 5. It provided the perfect opportunity to boost our science capital in school, bringing personal experience to our pupils.
“It’s all about children engaging in science in the wider context, leading them to be passionate about science and being inspired to feel that they can make a difference to the world. It’s about being able to relate what they are learning to their lives.
“We hope it also reassured parents and carers that we are taking all measures to ensure that school is a safe environment. The children were enthralled and had lots of questions about how the machine worked and how it had been produced. We look forward to furthering our links with Forth and organising a visit once we are able.
“It was a fantastic start to our Science Week in school which has included children making blood and investigating digestion using Weetabix, bananas and tights.
“Lots of our children have been following the NFU live lessons and we have been lucky to watch a live lambing and a chick hatching. Years 1 and 2 have been investigating and developing a yogurt product, even designing the packaging. Years 3 and 4 have looked at healthy eating and seasonal foods linking it with our sustainability topic and are all set to produce a variety of tarts on Friday.”
The innovative robot can disinfect areas in offices, warehouses, transport hubs, schools, shopping complexes, or on the streets, anywhere inside or outside.
