Excitement was sparked among readers yesterday as plans for a multi-million pound sports village in Cumbria were revealed .
The plans were given a boost by Government funding announced in the spring Budget last week.
It was announced on Wednesday that Allerdale Borough Council’s bid to the Towns Fund for Workington had been successful.
The Towns Fund is a £3.6bn pot aiming to further fund and create opportunities for communities across the country.
Workington will receive £23m from the fund, and the town and borough councils will now collaborate with Government and partners to finalise the plans.
Here’s how you, the readers reacted to the news.
Jan Lishman said: “An eight-lane athletics track and field facility would also enable a considerable number of extremely talented young people excel in their home town rather than having to travel in excess of 50 miles to train and compete.
"There are a number of West Cumbrians who are stars of track and field both in the UK and around the world.
"It would contribute to their physical and mental wellbeing through sport in general.”
David Blamire said: “The county definitely needs a new track.
Barrow has a new cracking facility after allowing roots to grow through the Walney track.
“With health and wellbeing the current topic, they should be banging the drum for full facilities and a larger budget and get the schools back on to the sports fields.”
