Cumbrian Dean Henderson kept his seventh clean sheet in just 13 appearances as Manchester United advanced in Europe.

The Whitehaven star was untroubled as the Red Devils drew 0-0 with Real Sociedad to complete a 4-0 aggregate victory in their Europa League last-32 tie.

The Spanish side's Mikel Oyarzabal missed a penalty as Henderson made it three shut-outs in a row for the Old Trafford club, who will face AC Milan in the next round.

The Cumbrian delayed his dive as the Sociedad player shuffled towards the spot-kick, Oyarzabal blazing the early penalty wide.

It came amid another assured display from the former Carlisle United academy player, who is bidding to become Man Utd's long-term No1.

There has been speculation that 23-year-old Henderson could leave the club in a big-money move if he is kept as regular second-choice to David de Gea.

Striker Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, has revealed how Henderson is a key part of his own devlopment.

Rashford says he hones his own penalty-taking skills against the talented Cumbrian.

Speaking on Man Utd's website, Rashford said: “We do practise against each other.

“I always like to practise against Dean and Joel {Pereira] because, probably out of all the keepers, they know me best and my finishing drills and stuff like that.

“If I can score against them I know I can score against anyone, so I have to test myself against these guys.”

Henderson joined Man Utd from Carlisle in 2011 and has been given first-team opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season following loan spells with Stockport, Grimsby, Shrewsbury and Sheffield United.

Carlisle stand to financially benefit from the keeper's progress at Old Trafford and potentially from any future move.
