Friends of Garry Barr, who died suddenly in January, aged just 37, are paying their respects to him by taking part in a fundraising challenge.

Garry, from Seaton, tragically died after having a heart attack in his sleep. This has come as a tremendous shock to all who knew him.

His friend Adam Cox, 36, from Maryport, said what a kind, thoughtful man he was.

He said “He is going to be a massive miss. I just couldn’t believe it, he was such a brilliant lad, he would do anything for anybody.

“Garry would always carry his neighbours shopping in for her, that was the type of person he was.”

Mr Barr was passionate about rugby league, he had played for Seaton, Flimby, Ellenborough Rangers and also the Arlecdon Rams over 35s. He was also a devoted Workington Town fan.

Garry’s friends and members of the rugby league community in west Cumbria will take part in the ‘handlebarr’ challenge to grow a handlebar moustache during the month of February.

Clubs including Seaton and Arlecdon have already donated to the fund, which currently stands at £1,085 - completely smashing the groups original target of £150.

Adam said they are raising the money for Garry’s family, his mam and dad Carol and John and son Kieran, 17.
