After a terrifying ordeal a a burns victim is about to take on a mammoth challenge.

Two-year-old Oliver Lightburn has a lucky escape after his mothers quick thinking and swift action from the air ambulance.

This brave and cheeky toddler is now set a goal to raise vital funds for the service by taking part in the Race to the Base.

During March, you can either run, walk or cycle the distance GNASS critical care team fly when returning to the base from the RVI in Newcastle, the North's main major trauma centre.

With 32, 46 or 130-miles to choose from, select your distance and start raising vital funds for our life-saving service.

The plucky two-year-old with a little help from his mum Hannah Shaw, 27 from Ousby he is aiming to complete the 32 mile challenge. His mum said: "Oliver is taking part in the challenge to help raise money for GNASS as with out them I don't know what would have happened. They need much more funding and by doing this we can give a little something back."

The Mum-of-two Hannah Shaw faced the horror scenario on Wednesday afternoon when her toddler knocked over a jug of boiling water, scalding himself at their home.

Going into survival mode, Hannah, 27, quickly doused him in cold water while he screamed.

She said: “It all happened in slow motion. He just pulled the jug down, he was screaming, but I just instinctively got him in the bath and kept pouring cold water over him.”

While Miss Shaw cooled him down, her mum called for an ambulance, which would have to come from Carlisle.

With Oliver being just two, they needed to get him seen to as quickly as possible.

The Great North Air Ambulance was deployed and the 27-year-old said she can’t thank them enough for what they did for her and Oliver.
