ROYAL Mail handled record parcel traffic with 496m delivered over Christmas.
On its busiest day, in quarter three, it delivered 11.7m parcels, 32 per cent more than its busiest day during the first national lockdown last year.
However "addressed letter volumes" declined by 14 per cent in the same period.
It's announced that operating profit is expected to be well in excess of £500m for the year.
Keith Williams, non-executive chair, said:“The third quarter saw unprecedented parcel volumes in Royal Mail, driven by online shopping and the peak Christmas period, the busiest in our company’s long history."
