A STAR of the screen has been trekking the length of Hadrian’s Wall on a journey through Britain’s past and in the final episode this week he stopped off in Carlisle.

Hadrian’s Wall with Robson Green has been broadcast on Channel Five every Thursday evening, it sees the TV star exploring the culture and history of North West England as he treks the length of the ancient Roman monument.

In the final episode he reached Carlisle and the surrounding areas, one of the businesses featured in his visit, was Cranstons Butcher and Maker in Brampton.

Robson was shown how the butchers make their famous Cumberland sausages.

Reacting to the broadcast, Brampton Food Hall manager Mark Mallinson said on Friday: “We were thrilled to be involved with the programme which we felt was a great advert for the whole region.”

Mark said: “The filming itself was a lot of fun as Robson was really witty and put us all at ease. He genuinely seemed to love what we are trying to do at the Food hall: Promoting top quality local produce.

“He actually came back to see us all just before Christmas with his wife to pick up a turkey and a rib of beef.”

“Since it aired last night we have had lots of lovely feedback from our customers and the Cranstons website has experienced a surge in orders for Cumberland sausage - we have deliveries going out all over the country to people who watched the programme.”

The programme showcased what the region has the star of Solider Soldier flew a microlight helicopter, with assistance, over the border regions, seeing the historic city of Carlisle and the Solway Firth from the air.

He also visited the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre in Thurstonfield where he met owner Gary Swainson and spectacled owl Pedro.

The final episode saw Robson complete his journey in Bowness-on-Solway, closing the show with a reflective walk on the beach in the Cumbrian village.
