The Government has confirmed that local authority elections will go ahead on May 5 unless there is a change in Covid infections.
Allerdale council’s returning officer Andrew Seekings said plans are already being put in place to ensure that the elections can be held safely.
“The Government confirmed last week that the May 6 elections will go ahead, but that they will keep this under review.
“Returning Officers in the county are now busy making the necessary plans and will be putting measures in place to ensure that polling stations are safe for electors and staff. However, electors who would normally vote in a polling station are reminded that they have the option to apply for a postal vote or a proxy vote if they prefer.”
The May elections are for the Cumbria County councillors, some borough and parish seats.
A Police and Crime Commissioner will also be elected.
