Tributes have come flooding into for a woman who was well-known in Carlisle for volunteering for those with learning disabilities.

Val Hind sadly lost her battle to Covid last Friday and since then tributes have come pouring in for the "determined, dedicated" lady.

Val from Upperby, sadly passed away on Friday after a short battle with coronavirus which saw her hospitalised on Christmas Day.

Simon Dalton commented: Cannot believe this so so sad my grandmother told me Val was in hospital with Covid. She was a lovely kind caring person and all she did to help others not forgetting what she did for Julie. My thoughts are with the family."

Natalie Black added: "She was lovely, fırst knew her from when I moved up to Upperby about 13-years-old, she would always stop for a chat, all the way up until I was ım my 30s. Rest In Peace, Val."

June Bell said: "Lovely lady had many a chat. She will be missed by all who knew her. My thoughts are with all her family."

Deborah Nugent posted: "She was a lovely lady. So sad. R.I.P.Val."

Susan Muir also added: "Condolences to the family of this dedicated lady."

Diane Phinn said :"It was a pleasure to have known Val and to have had Val as a neighbour. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time."

Ian Dixon added: "As Val’s son, I can say how amazed she would be that this article had been written on her as she done all the voluntary work for the love of it and for the people who’s lives she enhanced. Her funeral will be a private event and she will be buried in St John’s Upperby.

"If people want to donate in lieu of flowers the chosen charities are: Carlisle MENCAP, Cancer Research UK or The Great North Air Ambulance."
