GSK Ulverston is looking for driven candidates who are passionate about pursuing a career in manufacturing or engineering, which are available to all school leavers who have achieved or are predicted to achieve the minimum academic requirements.

In 2020 the Zinnat Supply Chain apprenticeship programme was recognised on a national level by the School Leaver Awards as the Top Employer in the Science and Pharmaceutical industry, as the apprenticeship spans across both the Ulverston and Barnard Castle site, which provides an exciting opportunity for individuals who are both outgoing and flexible, and who can integrate effectively into new teams and environments.

The programme will involve rotations between the two Zinnat Supply Chain sites in order to maximise the learning experiences of the apprentices. This gives the potential to land in a permanent role at one of the two sites when their apprenticeship finishes.

The Zinnat Supply Chain is recruiting for the following apprentice roles this year.

Engineering apprenticeship – Level 3 (with HNC)

Engineers at GSK are responsible for designing, maintaining and improving our leading-edge manufacturing facilities that deliver life-saving treatments. Our multi-skilled engineering apprenticeship programme is designed to create the technicians and engineers of the future.

As an engineering apprentice, you will have the opportunity to develop mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control & automation skills by covering some of the following training aspects:

  • Learning how to maintain production equipment and carry out routine maintenance
  • Fault finding, diagnosing and resolving breakdowns
  • Analysing machine data and recommending improvements
  • Learning about engineering project management
  • Helping with the design, installation and testing of new equipment

Manufacturing apprenticeship – Level 3 (with HNC)

Our manufacturing apprenticeship is designed to create the manufacturing technicians of the future. As a manufacturing apprentice you will develop the skills and knowledge required to operate the systems and equipment that produce our pharmaceutical products - from tablet manufacturing to assembly and packaging. Some of the skills you will learn include:

  • Learning how to operate equipment in the manufacture and packaging of our pharmaceutical products
  • First touch engineering – establishing root cause and resolving breakdowns
  • Data collection, analysis and trending to identify improvement opportunities
  • Improvement projects
  • Learning about the functions that support manufacturing (laboratory, engineering, logistics & scheduling)
  • Assisting in new product and equipment introductions
  • Ensuring quality, safety and accuracy

Assessment centres will take place in March/April on a virtual platform, and the successful candidates will start in September at the Ulverston site, where they’ll be introduced to GSK and learn what is expected of them, before later rotating between the two sites to maximise their learning opportunities.
